Crazy Canadian?

So, we started our final "unit" concerning THOUGHT. We'll be reading and analyzing some excerpts from a book by Marshall McLuhan, The Medium is the Massage. Read, Think, Reflect, Write. I also hope you go home and ask any adults if they know who this "crazy" guy is. I rather enjoy his wisdom and foresight. The book was published in 1967, yet everything still applies to us today.

The portal should be up to date with everything (except for test do-overs - those will be in tomorrow) - unless you did not put your name on work - check my non-name bin. And do not forget about the FINAL next Monday. You can't really "study" because it covers EVERYTHING we have studied thus far.

  1. The last thing you showed us, about electricity overwhelming space and time, and demanding constant change? I think that's part wrong.
To simplify, let's say that world is just made of haves, and have-nots.

The have-nots look forward to change, because it gives them a better chance for success. If the current president doesn't give a stimulus check to everyone, hopefully the next one will. If a law is changed, they could make money off it somehow.

The haves DON'T want change. They're at the top and LOVE it. They have perfected a style of succeeding, and don't want to have to make a new formula. They could go down in power.

And because they're the haves, they control the internet, research, money, the world. And they don't want a change.
    What do other people think?

  2. I am in desperate need for help. Does anybody know the extra credit assignments that Ms.Paulsen assigned for Geometry? If anybody can give those to me, it would be really helpfull.

  3. I think what he meant by eectricty destroying our perception of time and space is more about being able to send what you think to someone anywhere almost instantly, it's like a brain sending messages to other parts of the brain.

Basically what this does to society is it homoginizes emotions and thought procceses generalizing the ways we think and act more then ever. And humans have always copied each other we are just reaching a new level of public intimacy that can potentialy be dangerous for those that can't figure out how to think for themselves. (Sorry I can't spell ^^)

  4. Oh, also the part about having to constantly evolve I think, is due to the self destructive activities that people do when they are bored, and the being able to share knowledge instantly and acting as a single being will really push the limits of peoples creativity by forcing themselves not to become bored.
