We did a ROMOTHINK today:
From the NEWS: A 13-year old boy has Hodgkins Lymphoma, a cancer that has a 90% survivability rate using traditional methods (radiation and chemo). His parents have recently lost a court case after choosing to follow alternative methods in seeking a cure. Knowing that the STATE serves the people, while also acknowledging that people need protection, do you believe the parents should be allowed to treat their son using alternative methods? Or should they be forced to follow what doctors (at the Mayo Clinic) prescribe?
We will "correct" the Guns, Germs, & Steel work tomorrow and follow up today's conversation with a connection to Abortion. Also tomorrow - some BBB that will be due Friday.

Hurray for government intervention!
ReplyDeleteI tell you it is a crime
ReplyDeleteThe parents should not be allowed to treat their son using alternative methods and should be forced to follow what is prescribed by the doctors at the Mayo Clinic. With a 90% chance of survival, the young teenager has a very likely chance of recovering and leading a quite normal life, and there is no reason why he should not. Alternative methods have not even been proved to work, and could possibly be harmful as well. If parents are not responsible enough to make the appropriate decisions regarding their child's live, then the government needs to intervene. This is not a minor matter, as Daniel Hausen, a 13 year-old boy's life is at stake. For the best chance of survival Hausen should receive traditional cancer treatment prescribed by a doctor.
ReplyDelete(I hope I was supposed to post this here, cause you didn't put it in the ROMOTHINK section. this little 10 point assignment brought by grade down a whole letter grade!)
thank you, Emily Gotzsche
