ET says "Ouch"

Ouch - this hurts. Did you gain anything from what I did with you over the last 3 weeks last quarter? Make the previous post for criticisms and this post for positives. Thanks. Oh, and BTW - the posters look GREAT on the wall (thanks to Porter for cleaning it up a bit). After scanning them again after school, I continue to be proud of you.

  1. It was a great oppertunity to work with some new people and bust out some of my cool ties.

  2. I liked learning more about the UN and how world organizations such as the IMF function. I found it very interesting, and I really liked the whole model UN unit except for Wednesday.

  3. I thought it was cool to be able to focus on one country and their real-life, current problems, and economy. It was also really awesome to look into a problem and find real solutions with other people.
It really was a cool idea, but unfortunately could have been played out much more successfully. The people their obviously didn't know much about working with teenagers, let alone in such large numbers. It was rather difficult to get very engaged and things were much more stretched out and elongated than they could have been. Kids began to get restless, causing all of what we, as a group, were working for to go to waste.
I also think that the entire thing was nowhere near as prepared as it could have been. Nobody seemed to know exactly what they were doing, and a large amount of time in my group (ECOSOP) was spent waiting for the leaders to get everything figured out.
Few kids had patience with the leaders, and the leaders had no patience with the kids.
It was a great idea, there was much to be learned. I was just disappointed in how much of that potential had gone to waste.

  4. The overall project was a success. the activities and the research done previously really helped me to understand model UN better. Arguments presented on the Model UN day made me aware of other countries' positions.

  5. It was just fun. Maybe it was just because I got to be a kickass country but it was nice having power and such. Except of course for when Grotchy started screwing with me.

  6. Model UN was a good learning experience for me because i got to learn more about other countries, but the GA could have been a little bit more organized.

  7. I thought that it was really interesting to see (or get the gist of) how the United Nations works. I also learned more about seeing things from another country's perspective, as its perspectives can help show what the country values and what its culture is like. It also helped me see that the wording of resolutions greatly influences whether the resolution will be passed, as sometimes a resolution can be too vague or there can be meaning "in between the lines". It was a very interesting experience.

  8. I learned a lot from this project. I feel like we had a lot of opportunities put out there to help us grow, but we needed to take them. I had fun.

  9. I liked learning about the IMF and World Bank and I thought everything was really interesting. The only thing that didn't work this quarter was the Model UN General Assembly. That was not fun. But otherwise it was all good.

  10. I've never learned about something from such a "real-world" perspective. We focused on our countries as if we were actually representatives. It was interesting to hear about the MDGs in class, and how poverty is being dealt with internationally. I got to see the other sides of issues, and how there are always strings attached. It was a shame that much of our work was focused on that one, dreary Wednesday. Thankfully, I have taken more from the whole project than just 7 hours of pain.

  12. Phahaha Steffen you rock for letting me do that. Mr. Romo, I DID learn alot from this whole process. Global interactions, the U.A.E, even some parlementry procedure, I wouldn't have learned any of this without this project. It's a shame that the actual day didn't work, but the concept was really cool.
